The first was an invasion of the privacy of Gov Sarah Palin, in which her personal email was ‘hacked’ and posted on Wikileaks and Gawker.com:
McCain camp seeks investigation over reported e-mail hack
(CNN) — John McCain’s campaign said Wednesday it has contacted “appropriate authorities” over a report that Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin’s personal e-mail had been hacked.
“This is a shocking invasion of the Governor’s privacy and a violation of law,” campaign manager Rick Davis said in a statement. “The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these emails will destroy them. We will have no further comment.”
The statement came hours after a user on the Web site WikiLeaks said he had gained access to Palin’s Yahoo e-mail account and gained access. Screenshots of the e-mail messages and photos of the Alaska governor’s family were published on that Web site and later on gossip Web site gawker.com.
FBI Spokesman Eric Gonzalez in Anchorage, Alaska confirms to CNN an investigation is underway.
“We are aware of the allegations and we are coordinating with Secret Service as far as the allegation that someone has hacked into Governor Palin’s personal e-mail account,” he said. “We are going to be working a joint investigation with Secret Service on this.”
Brian Hale, an FBI spokesman in Washington, also confirms the FBI has been contacted about the incident. Two federal law enforcement sources say the FBI and Secret Service would have concurrent jurisdiction normally on a matter such as this, but it remains to be seen if the Secret Service will take the lead on the investigation because Palin is a protectee.
The e-mails shown include one from July between Palin and Alaska Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell and another dated earlier this week from Amy McCorkell, the woman Palin appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Board on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in 2007.
Palin has faced criticism for using a private e-mail account to conduct some state business — prompting critics to allege she was attempting to hide information from the public record.

The second item of news, this time an act of vandalism pretending to be racism against the Obama campaign:
Secret Service Investigates Local Obama Threats
Racial Slurs Painted On Billboard
DETROIT — The U.S. Secret Service said Wednesday it’s investigating two threatening letters against Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and racial slurs painted on an Obama billboard in Pittsfield Township.
The letters were sent to the Livingston County Democratic Party in Brighton Township and another to a local business. Douglas Zloto, resident agent in charge of the federal agency’s Saginaw office, said authorities are trying to determine the nature and extent of the threats.
“The Secret Service takes every threat extremely seriously,” he told The Ann Arbor News. “We will be using every resource to investigate this threat … and to determine how it was made.”
The letter sent to the party office reportedly expresses a wish that Obama “gets a bullet.” The second to the unidentified Howell business owner includes racial slurs — preceded by a warning that the owner should “think hard about who you are trying to elect.”
“This an attempt to intimidate and we won’t be intimidated. We know that this is a fringe opinion and it is not representative,” said Local Democratic chairwoman Judy Daubenmier.
Daubenmier said she believes the letters are linked and hopes anyone with information contacts authorities.
Michigan State Police also said they are investigating racial slurs spray-painted on an Obama campaign billboard along U.S. 23 near Ann Arbor. Officers believe the graffiti, which includes swastikas, Ku Klux Klan symbols, and a death threat was painted late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
Police said they have found some fingerprints on the billboard and they will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.
“This is malice, this is hate and this is a cowardly act committed in the darkness,” said Pittsfield Public Safety Director John Phillips.
Obama state campaign spokesman Brent Colburn said he believed it was the first large-scale act of vandalism on Obama campaign material to include such slurs in Michigan.
“Whoever did it should be embarrassed and ashamed, but unfortunately, (racism) is a reality in our world,” he said. “It in no way is a reflection of the reception we’ve gotten in the Ann Arbor area, or anywhere in Michigan.”

Personally, i think BOTH attacks were “cowardly” and “committed in the darkness”. I won’t get any popularity points pointing out that a retard’s vandalism is a little less unnerving than having your personal email account compromised & posted (along with stolen photos of your family) online, so i won’t bring that up (uhem), but BOTH acts are ridiculous, and indicate the level that some followers on either side are willing to stoop.
I will note, however, that the “Racial Slurs Painted on Billboard” is reported as fact … there’s none of that legalese “allegedly” being tossed around here … yet the hacking of Palin’s email is reported in terms leading us to believe it’s merely a ‘report’ that something ‘may have’ happened … despite it’s public accessiblity. I wonder why it is that a report of something some horrible and invasive would be treated like it is an unconfirmed rumor? (you can still find references on those sites. face it: it happened)
On the flip side, I question whether or not these ‘racial slurs’ were even made by someone against Obama. We already know that the Democrats, at least the Clintocrats, have used the media to spread “attacks” against themselves to gain public support (Spreading the rumor that Obama doesn’t place his hand on his heart during the pledge or national anthem or whatever, spreading the photos of Obama in a turban and robe, etc) … I mean, i’m not saying there isn’t some kind of idiot racist roaming the Michigan countryside, but i really have difficulty believing anyone really even cares whether or not Obama is part “black”. Race is such a non-issue to his opponents (they have more than enough dirt on him for his weak and weird senate record, his empty ‘promise’ speeches, and his frightening lack of a clear ‘plan’ than to have to stoop to terroristic threats!), and while we occasionally hear about these monster racists roaming about, many of these ‘obvious hate crimes’ of ‘racially charged’ vandalism have turned out to be scams where the ‘victim’ has created them for attention.

Again, not saying this is an example of auto-persecution, but it is important to note that violent acts of racism (vandalism, physical harm, arson) in the past 20 years have more often been found to be perpetrated by the “victim” than found to be actual “hate crimes”. Our ‘knowledge’ of ‘hate crimes’ comes more from sensationalist television and decades-past history than from current news and ‘overwhelming evidence’. Most ‘hate crimes’ in the past 5 years, for example, were crimes perpetuated against whites by other ‘minority groups’ associated with gangs (and therefore grouped as ‘gang violence’), or against organizations like churches and abortion clinics.
So … the likelyhood that Obama is being targeted by an ‘organized hate group’ is pretty slim. If the recent vandalism was not part of a ruse by the Obama campaign themselves, then it was likely the work of some drunk, redneck 20 year old.
The Palin email incident, however, required much more skill and planning. To have been delivered to the sites it was, to have done screenshots like it did, i would not be surprised if it was orchestrated by MoveOn or one of George Soros’ other anti-american pet project groups. We’ll have to see.
