What Screams “We Think You Are A Promiscuous Whore” Better Than A Planned Parenthood Gift Cert?

This kind of grossed me out:

Gift certificates for Planned Parenthood

Created On: Tuesday, 25 Nov 2008, 7:27 PM EST

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Gift certificates have become a popular holiday gift option, but a controversial new one, already has people talking.

For the first time, Planned Parenthood in Indiana is offering gift certificates. The organization said a big increase in calls and visits from newly unemployed and uninsured Hoosiers prompted what it calls the unusual, yet practical gift option.

“People are making really tough decisions about putting gas in their car and food on their table, so we know that many women especially put healthcare at the bottom of their list to do,” said Chrystal Struben-Hall, Vice President of Planned Parenthood of Indiana.

The certificates come in $25 increments. They can be used for everything from birth control to $58 examinations that include breast exams and pap tests. Men who receive healthcare at Planned Parenthood can use them too.

“They can be seen for sexually transmitted disease screenings, HIV tests and general prostate exams and those kinds of things,” said Struben-Hall.

Some Hoosiers 24-Hour News 8 talked to asked if the gift certificates could be used towards abortions. The answer is yes. But, Planned Parenthood said that’s not the purpose of the gift certificates.

Struben-Hall said, “They really are intended for preventative healthcare. We decided not to put restrictions on the gift certificates so it’s for whatever people feel they need the services for most.”

Indiana Family Institute President Curt Smith said he is appalled by the certificates.

“I think the way to help family planning is to give the money where there’s no agenda. So if somebody wants to help a woman at a time of crisis, they can support the life centers throughout Indiana,” said Smith.

Planned Parenthood hopes philanthropists look at it differently. The organization hopes people might purchase the certificates, and then turn them back in for their patients who need reproductive healthcare, but can’t pay for it.

ok. lets consider this.  The article gives some examples of some of the things the Gift certificates could be used for:  STD screenings, HIV tests, birth control, and abortions.  yeah, they also mentioned “breast examinations, pap tests and prostate tests”, but the REALITY of it is someone who is freaking out about possible breast cancer is usually going to go to a real clinic, an incredibly low number of the ‘regular visitors’ of PP even think to go in for a ‘routine breast exam’ (i’m not meaning to be discriminatory, but most of the ‘educated’ people who would think so far ahead about their health are usually those who are abusing the ‘low income’ PP programs, and if it came to something life-threatening [threatening their life, that is], they usually go elsewhere).  Aside from all that, how often do 20 year old guys go in for a prostate check?  Right.  How many 68 year old men do you think are going to Planned Parenthood?  Right.

so back to my point.  Most people who would use PP are going to be using them because of worry about becoming pregnant, being pregnant, or having an STD.
i don’t think married couples should have to ‘worry’ about pregnancy, and generally i don’t think most married couples hang out at PP anyway … so that leaves the single folks that consider pregnancy an issue.  wow. that was a lot of words. let me crunch it down a little: promiscuous people.  don’t start freaking out on me.  i know you like to consider yourself a “serial monogamist”, but if it’s been more than one person, society has the right to call you ‘promiscuous’, and religion has a right to call you a fornicator, because … well, that’s what you are.

Same thing goes for STDs.  People get STDs primarily from two places:  their own indiscretions, and the indiscretions of their partner.

so climbing back up to the point:  consider what each of the following might represent (with yourself as the recipient):
Grandma and Grandpa: “Here you go, dear! Something we know you’ll be able to use! It says it expires after one year, so you’d better hurry and use it!”
Mom and Dad: “Well, We were going to wait until you were in college, but I suppose now that you’re in the sixth grade, you’re probably ready!”
Boss: “I wanted to get each of our employees something they could use, and when I heard about these, your name came to mind …”
Spouse: “I wasn’t sure what you wanted this year, so i got you this gift certificate.”

Yeah. kinda … weird.

My final point … is that society should not be encouraging the sorts of behavior that make Planned parenthood exist in the first place.  there is NOTHING good about promiscuity.  there is NO GOOD in abortion.  mankind has NOTHING to gain from hindering the natural process of reproduction.  This aspect of culture exists because some people are self-serving, self-centered, seekers of pleasures more than of God.  Handing out gift certificates for Planned Parenthood to fornicators and adulterers is like handing out loaded handguns to suicidal persons.
